In 1986, a gathering of entrepreneurial Peruvians made real the possibility that there could be a successful international business that also supported the little man, the artisan.
ALLPA were moved by the traditional skills they saw demonstrated by the skilled hands of those in poor communities. Since then, ALLPA has become an ambassador of the fair trade movement, turning the creation of original design into an ongoing conversation between artists and customers worldwide.
Products by Allpa
All of ALLPA’s handmade creations come from one of 80 studios, based throughout Peru. Each studio produces something different and unique – whether it’s hand-knitted clothing, handcrafted furniture, woven textiles, ceramics, jewellery, or painted glass. Each traditional craft explores Peruvian culture, reinforces its heritage, and expresses the identity of the maker.
ALLPA spends a lot of time collaborating with its artisans, offering technical assistance, and ongoing training. The idea behind this is to provide the artisans with the opportunity to become entrepreneurs themselves, competing on an even footing in the global marketplace. Alongside the artisans, the ALLPA team see themselves as fair trade ambassadors – living through fair trade principles in a practical, everyday dialogue. ALLPA is a member of WFTO, and believe that good design and quality craftsmanship should go hand-in-hand with sustainability, respect for ecology, and opportunities for all.
