This handmade cutlery holder, glass holder or wine bottle holder is crafted by home-based women artisans in one of the most rural areas of Swaziland.
Each vessel is woven by hand from a mix of sisal and indigenous lutindsi grass, sustainably harvested from the wild Swazi mountains. This waterproof and stain resistant fibre is braided into long strands, woven, coiled, and stitched in place by hand.

Gone Rural began as one woman’s vision to empower women in Swaziland’s most remote areas. During the 1970s, Gone Rural’s founder Jenny Thorne began setting up small income-generation projects with local women, and it wasn’t long before her eyes wandered up to the mountains, where women were already weaving with the beautiful lutindzi grass growing there.
