These four prehistoric playmates are sure to appeal to young imaginations. Each of the rubberwood pieces is hand-painted by young people in Sri Lanka benefiting from employment and training opportunities at Gospel House. Made in Sri Lanka by Gospel House Handicrafts
Gospel House Handicrafts was established in 1977 with the aim of providing employment and training to boys from the poor areas of Colombo. They now work with nine small-scale producer groups in different parts of Sri Lanka. Gospel House's production unit for toys at Madampe provides work for 35 young people and the producer groups employ over 65 people/families, in total 115 producers, 80 of them women.
Seelawathi runs a small group which is involved in the production of wooden toys fro Gospel House. "This is the way we can earn a living" she says. She used to work in the Middle East. "When we came back to Sri Lanka I was unemployed, then I found this work with Gospel House. We never thought of saving for the children and grandchildren, now we can."
