The Pinotage from the same co-operative is South Africa's speciality, and is a dry, full-bodied wine that will develop with age. The rich, plum bouquet is well-sustained by an abundance of fruitiness on the palate, while subtle hints of woodiness combine with strong tannins to provide a rounded finish. This wine would partner best with game, roast meats, and mature cheese.

Citrusdal Cellars is a co-operative in the Citrusdal area of the Western Cape, South Africa. This is an area where the history of colonialism and apartheid have left the wine industry with many problems.
The farmers who make up the co-oprative in this area have all ensured their workers' rights are respected and they are fairly paid. Fair trade prices for their wines and help from Traidcraft means many farmers can now give financial support to the local community development association in Citrusdal.

Among many community initiatives is the establishment of creches and nursery schools. This has a double benifit, ensuring that children are cared for while their parents are working in the fields and gives them a good education.
