Fair Trade Producer Details
GKK is a small private company involved in embroidery and tailoring. Regular employment is provided for 120 women who are trained to produce high quality work. They earn 25-30% above the normal rate for the region. Women are paid into their own bank accounts, giving them greater esteem.

Hakum Chand learnt his tailoring skills at a young age when his father who was a soldier with the border security force retired. Hakum now works at GKK with his wife Hira Devi who helps him by stitching buttons and making buttonholes as well as checking finished garments. "With money earned in the last few years I have been able to buy a few machines and have employed two assistants to help me with my work" he says. "We used to work at home, but my children needed a quieter place to be able to do their homework. With the money we have earned we have been able to rent a one room flat, as a result my children's grades at school are much better".
