Lucio Parrada Carmanate is married and has three children. One boy is 21 and is in the army in Havana, his daughter is 16 and wants to be a teacher and his youngest son is 13 and also wants to be in the army. The co-operative has used some of the fair trade premium to start a tree nursery project.

He says: "From the experience of other co-operatives that have started tree nurseries, we know this will give good results. We will be producing an exotic fruit. It will sell well on the domestic market and give good income. With fair trade income and Traidcraft support we will keep expanding our work to produce as much as we can."

"There are also fruits which are disappearing from our country, which are very exotic - these are very good fruits, but it might happen that one day they no longer exist. We want to diversify our producers to include these fruits."
